Book now for Noma Sydney

Noma is to close in January and reopen as an urban farm restaurant while the chef takes his team to Sydney for a pop-up.

Reservations for Noma’s pop-up in Sydney next year are now open.

Last month, Rene Redzepi sent waves across the fine dining world when he announced plans to shutter his Michelin-starred restaurant Noma in Copenhagen at the peak of its popularity – the restaurant has topped the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list four times – and resurrect it as an “urban farm”.

While the site of the new farm-to-table restaurant undergoes renovations, Redzepi will be taking his world-famous restaurant halfway around the world to diners in Sydney for a 10-week run that begins Jan 26 to April 2 next year.

The terms of booking are strict. The multi-course meal costs A$485 (RM1,500) and must be paid in full at the time of booking. Reservations are non-refundable.

The restaurant will open at a new waterfront location in Sydney, the Barangaroo, and feature local, Australian products that will only be served during the Sydney pop-up.

Hoping that Redzepi’s star power will be enough to attract international tourists to Sydney, Tourism Australia – a partner in the Noma pop-up – has reserved a quarter of seats for foreigners.

For the past 10 months, Redzepi and his team have made six trips to Australia, researching ingredients and the wine landscape.

In December, the staff will fly out to Sydney to get the new restaurant up and running.

Noma Australia will be open for lunch and dinner, Tuesday to Saturday for tables of two, four, six and eight.

And reservations will be allotted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Redzepi is the latest top chef to fly his staff out to the other end of the world early next year.

Another hotly anticipated pop-up is set to take place in January 2016 when Chicago chef Grant Achatz takes his triple Michelin-starred restaurant Alinea to Madrid.

For the first week, Achatz will introduce the concept of mobile dining to Madrilenos in a collaboration with local celebrity chef David Munoz.

Mid-way through the meal, diners will get up and travel between two spaces, Alinea at the NH Hotel Eurobuilding and renowned local restaurant DiverXO.

The Alinea/DiverXO dinners are €500 (RM2400), while the regular Alinea Madrid degustation menu at the NH Hotel clocks in at €275 (RM1300).

Earlier this year, celebrity British chef Heston Blumenthal also recreated his flagship Bray restaurant The Fat Duck in Australia by relocating his entire staff to the Crown Melbourne hotel for six months. – AFP Relaxnews
