I have a thing for handmade, non-traditional Christmas trees. I love them all, from using manzanita branches as trees, to decorating cacti (I actually did this on my deck this year), to vintage feather trees (I have one of those this year too. I need to be stopped). When it comes to the main tree, I think it’s fun to play around a little bit. I’ve long been obsessed with those aluminum tinsel trees, which I used for my tree for the past few years. This year, I thought, “Why not make my OWN tinsel tree, but huge and gold?” Inspired by the classic holiday decoration and my color palette, I set about creating the centerpiece of my holiday home.

Since the ceilings in Orcondo are 17-feet tall, I decided to fill the entire space. After researching materials, I settled on 12.5 feet for the height. This project was actually one of the more difficult DIYs I’ve done, so I’m not going to sit here and be like “It was simple and easy. AND SO CAN YOU!” It’s definitely doable, but it would be way easier if I had a woodshop or a handyman that lived in the hall closet that I could ask for help when drilling things got tedious. But in my opinion, it’s not the holidays if you’re not staying up until midnight and doing complicated crafting that makes you question your sanity.
